This is a software that can OCR scanned PDF pages to get table data into Excel spreadsheets.
mini TIFF to XLS OCR Converter is a tool for converting scanned PDF files, normal PDF files and scanned image files to editable Excel documents. The tool does this conversion through OCR and data tables are then easily manipulated in MS Excel. This is a standalone application and does not need the Acrobat or any image processing tools or Excel to be present on your system. The Excel formats supported are Microsoft Excel 97-2003 XLS and MS Excel 2007 XLSX formats. The tool supports batch conversion, and thus you could get multiple documents converted in one go. To create the batch, you could drag and drop files into the interface. You can choose to have all data in one Excel table or a sheet per page that is available in the PDF or the scanned TIFF image.
The conversion process does not interfere with the layout of the source document. The tool recognizes data arranged in tables and discards all other data. It will convert encrypted documents too. This tool then is a handy item to extract tabular data from PDF documents or images for further processing. The interface is simple enough with a large area set aside for creating the batch list. Then you have some setting related to the output, page ranges to be converted and the password to a document if it has one. It is a single click conversion thereafter. Despite the simplicity, the interface does not look clean enough. Possibly, it is the choice of the font used for interface messages that is to blame. Overall, it is a nice, simple and handy tool.
